CQWW 2008 - Guinea - 3X5A

The VooDoo Contest Group began in 1986 when K5VT, KC7V & N7BG, travelled to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands to participate in the CQWW CW Contest. Our name was coined in 1995 as we crossed the border between Benin and Togo. Rob GM3YTS was inspired by a group of Voodoo Priests we encountered while on the road. Our nickname has become "VooDudes".

3X5A - Voodoo Contest Group 2008

This marks the 15th consecutive year that the VooDoo Contest Group has operated in West Africa for the CQWW DX CW Contest.

To date all or part of the VooDudes have operated from 3X, 4U0ITU, 5U, 5V, 9G, C5, CN, KP2, TU, TY, TZ, XT, ZC4 and ZF in the CQWW CW Contest. Since 1994 we have operated only from West Africa nations.

We operated as TZ5A from Bamako, Mali in 2005 and 2006, then moved our equipment to Conakry, Guinea on a 600-mile road journey, in November 2007. We operated as 3X5A in 2007, winning the Multi-Multi category. Our normal procedure is to operate in the same location a second year, and then move country again. So, this November, 2008, we were again 3X5A. For next year we hope to move to Freetown, Sierra Leone. More about that later.

We tried to get into everybody’s log on every band in the CQWW DX CW Contest. We will also operated the bands outside of the contest as we do from every place we visit.

We hope that we worked everyone in the 2008 CQWW DX CW contest on one or more of the bands again in 3X. We were also operational on all amateur HF bands before and after the event.

C U again in the contest next year!

AA7A, G3SXW, G3XTT, G4BWP, G4IRN, GM3YTS, K5VT, and N6AA
