This is an aerial view of Hotel Camayenne in Conakry, Guinea (courtesy of Google Earth) where we operated 3X5A in November 2007. Our final antenna placement is provided in this picture as well. We were not able to deploy any long beverage LF receive antennas this year, but did successfully will use a pair of Flag antennas for the LF bands. We found the LF verticals to work well with such close proximity to the ocean and used the flag antennas extensively to pull out weak signals that were not copiable at times when using the verticals. And, the HF yagis on the roof of the hotel provided an excellent launch out over an unobstructed path to EU, NA and SA. Japan is always our challenge in West Africa and we were praying for the early return of 10 meter long path in this solar cycle. We did catch short long path openings on 15 and 20 meters to JA, but not long enough to our liking and no sign of any 10 meter long path signals. VK and ZL are at our antipode and we did manage to log a few during the CQWW DX CW Contest.

Our seven stations (160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 and Mult) comprised of Elecraft K2/100 transceivers (excellent for CW contesting) and old Alpha amplifiers, 76 and 78. Computer logging was  be done with Win-Test over a wireless network. We felt that we were were active on all bands in the contest (160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10) whenever they were open during the 48 hours of the contest. We used monoband antennas for every band and a tribander for the multiplier station.
