Life in Bamako
Life in Bamako
By John Warburton, G4IRN
During the 2005/6 trips to Mali, the group were fortunate enough to have a great local guide (Siré Diallo) who knew Bamako and was well known around town. More than any other country visited, this enabled the team to get to see parts of Bamako and Mali that otherwise we may not have seen. Although we saw a few NGO and UN westerners in African countries, we rarely (maybe never?) saw any tourists.
Bamako is the capital city of Mali and has a population of 1.8 million. We took a trip into town to see the ‘Recycling Market’ and soak up some of the atmosphere.
